2. About GoCoast

GoCoast is a planning, ride-recording and community app for jet ski, boat and other water users, in Australia and internationally. It includes:

  • maps, spots and conditions information
  • GPS ride recording and replays
  • trip planning
  • Crews
  • safety tools: Signal, the SOS page and float plans
  • a community feed, stories, communities, events and messaging
  • a marketplace
  • partner features such as Tour Mode and ride videos
GoCoast is an information and community tool. It is not a navigation aid, a safety or tracking device, or an emergency service. Nobody monitors it around the clock. In an emergency, call 000 (or your local emergency number) or use VHF Channel 16.
3. Agreeing to These Terms

These Terms and our Privacy Policy form a legally binding agreement between you and GoCoast. By creating an account, starting Tour Mode, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

If you use GoCoast on behalf of an organisation (for example as a Partner Operator's staff member or a Verified Organisation), you confirm you're authorised to accept these Terms for that organisation. Any separate written agreement between us and that organisation also applies.

4. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 to create an account. A tour customer under 16 may use Tour Mode only with a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms on their behalf and supervises their use.

You are responsible for holding every licence, registration and qualification the law requires for your vessel and activity wherever you ride. Using GoCoast doesn't mean you are qualified or permitted to operate a vessel.

5. Your Account

You can sign up with email and password, Sign in with Apple, or Sign in with Google. Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. Keep your login secure. You are responsible for activity on your account unless it happens because of our own failure to take reasonable security measures. Tell us immediately at support@gocoast.app if you suspect unauthorised access.

Don't impersonate anyone, including rescue organisations, police, businesses or other riders. Don't create accounts for other people without their permission, or use extra accounts to get around limits or bans. Only accounts we have verified can show a Verified Organisation or partner badge.

Tour Mode accounts are anonymous and tied to your device. If you sign out, delete the app or reset the device, you may not be able to get that account back.

6. Free Features, Pro and Billing

Free features and limits

Many GoCoast features are free, and some have usage limits. The current features and limits are shown in the app. We may change which features are free, or change the limits, from time to time. If you have already paid for Pro, we won't reduce what's included in it during your current billing period.

Pro subscriptions

Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play. The app shows the price, currency, billing period and what's included before you buy.

  • Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase.
  • Auto-renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the period ends.
  • Cancelling: manage or cancel in your Apple ID or Google Play subscription settings. Deleting the app or your GoCoast account does not cancel your subscription. After you cancel, you keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their policies. Your rights under the ACL are not affected (Section 20).
  • Free trials and introductory offers: if offered, their terms are shown before you start. Unless you cancel before the trial ends, it converts to a paid subscription.
  • Price changes: Apple and Google notify you of price increases, and ask for your consent where their rules require it. You can cancel before the new price applies.
  • Restore purchases: if you reinstall or change devices, use "Restore Purchases" in the app.

Offer codes and partner promotions

We or our Partner Operators may give out offer codes or promotion links for free or discounted Pro. Each offer has its own conditions, such as eligibility, expiry, one use per person and how many codes are available. Offers are redeemed through the App Store or Google Play, have no cash value, and can't be transferred or resold. We may cancel a code that was obtained or used fraudulently.

7. Acceptable Use

You must not use the Service to:

  • harass, threaten, bully, stalk, defame or discriminate against anyone, or post hateful, sexually explicit or violent content
  • post, message or share anything that sexualises or endangers children. We report this to the authorities (see our Child Safety Standards).
  • track, locate or monitor anyone without their knowledge and consent, including by adding someone to a Crew, pressuring them to share their location, or misusing nearby-rider, Signal or Crew information
  • send false or prank Signal requests, or make false emergency or safety claims
  • submit false or misleading hazards, restricted zones, conditions reports or spot information
  • pretend to be a rescue organisation, police, a Partner Operator or GoCoast, or misrepresent your qualifications
  • post other people's personal information, or images of people, without their consent
  • send spam or unsolicited commercial messages, or advertise without our permission
  • sell illegal, stolen, counterfeit or unsafe items, or commit fraud
  • use bots, scrapers or automated tools; access data you aren't authorised to see (including through our APIs); probe or bypass security; or interfere with the Service
  • copy, resell or reverse engineer the Service, except as the law permits
  • get around free-tier limits, paywalls, Tour Mode restrictions or ride-video unlocks
  • use the app in a way that distracts you from operating your vessel safely
  • break any law

We may remove content, limit features, or suspend accounts where we reasonably believe these rules have been broken (see Section 24).

8. Ride Recording
Set up your ride before you leave, secure your device, and don't interact with the app while operating a vessel. You are responsible for safe operation at all times.
  • Accuracy: GPS routes, distance, speed and other stats are estimates and may be wrong. Don't use them for navigation, or as evidence of speed or position in any legal, insurance or enforcement matter.
  • Background use and battery: recording in the background uses battery and data. Keep a charged, independent means of communication with you.
  • Data: we take reasonable steps to protect your rides, including backing up rides while they record. We can't guarantee that no data will ever be lost, so keep copies of anything important.
  • Sharing: shared rides are visible to other users (see the Privacy Policy).
9. Crew Live Location
  • You only share your location with a Crew when you choose to, for the time you choose, and you can stop at any time.
  • Only invite people you trust. Only add or invite people who want to be in the Crew. Never use a Crew to track someone who hasn't freely agreed to it. That includes a partner, an employee, or anyone else.
  • A Crew owner can remove members and delete the Crew. Crew size limits for free and Pro accounts are shown in the app.
  • Crew locations can be delayed, wrong or missing, for example with no mobile signal, low battery, restricted background location, or a closed app. Crew is not a safety or rescue system. A rider not showing up, or not moving, on the Crew map is not a reliable sign that they are safe or in danger.
10. Safety Features: Signal, SOS and Float Plan
If anyone's life or safety is at risk, call 000 (or your local emergency number) or use VHF Channel 16 first. Don't wait for a reply on GoCoast.

Signal

  • Signal is for non-emergency help from other riders, such as a breakdown, a tow, or being unsure of your bearings.
  • When you send a Signal request, you agree to share your position, message, display name and the phone number you enter with other users, as described in the Privacy Policy.
  • We don't guarantee that anyone will see, receive or answer a request, or answer in time. Notifications can be delayed or fail.
  • People who respond are members of the public, and neither GoCoast nor the Service requires them to act. They are not our employees, agents or contractors, and we don't screen them. Any help they give is arranged between you and them. Look after your own safety when dealing with them.
  • If you choose to help someone, only do so if you can do it safely and lawfully, and within your skills and your vessel's capabilities.

Verified Organisations

A Verified Organisation badge means only that we took reasonable steps to confirm who the account belongs to. It doesn't mean that organisation monitors GoCoast, has agreed to respond, or is acting for us. Contact rescue services through their official channels.

SOS page

The SOS page shows your GPS position and emergency numbers for your country. Your position can be wrong. We take reasonable care to check the emergency numbers, but they may be out of date or not cover your area. Always confirm local emergency numbers before you go out.

Float plan

A float plan saves your trip details and emails you a reminder if you're overdue. GoCoast does not contact your emergency contact, rescue services or anyone else. Leave your trip plan with a responsible person who will raise the alarm if you don't return, and only list someone as an emergency contact with their permission.

11. Community, Stories, Messages and Marketplace

Community

Posts, stories, comments, community chat, events and messages must follow Section 7. Event hosts are responsible for their events. GoCoast doesn't organise, supervise or insure user events. You go at your own risk, and you should check the host and the plans yourself.

Moderation, reporting and blocking

We don't review content before it's posted. You can report content, messages, listings and users, and block other users. We review reports in good faith and may remove content or restrict accounts. We aim to act on objectionable content promptly (usually within 24 hours of a report). Reporting doesn't guarantee a particular outcome.

If we remove your content or restrict your account, we'll tell you what we did and why, and the rule we relied on. We won't do this where the law forbids it, or where telling you would put someone at risk. You can ask us to review the decision by emailing support@gocoast.app within 6 months. A person, not an automated system, will look at your request. You can also report content that you believe is illegal where you live, even if it doesn't break these Terms.

Marketplace

The Marketplace connects buyers and sellers. GoCoast is not a party to any sale, doesn't take payments, and doesn't inspect or guarantee items.

Sellers must own what they sell, describe it accurately, and only list items that are legal to sell. The following may not be listed: stolen goods, counterfeits, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, drugs, recalled or undisclosed unsafe items, and anything else prohibited by law.

Buyers should inspect items and check ownership before paying. For vessels and trailers, that includes a registration and finance check (such as a PPSR search in Australia). Never pay someone you haven't verified.

Disputes about a sale are between buyer and seller. We may remove listings or restrict Marketplace access where we reasonably believe it's needed.

12. Hazards, Restricted Zones and Spot Information

Hazard reports, restricted or no-go zones, spots, ramps, food stops and other place information may come from other users or public sources. It may be incomplete, out of date or wrong. Restricted zones shown in GoCoast are not official boundaries. They don't replace official charts, notices to mariners, signage or the rules of the waterway authority where you ride, such as Maritime Safety Queensland. You must follow the official rules even if GoCoast doesn't show a zone, or shows it differently.

13. Tour Mode, Ride Videos and Partners

Your tour

A Partner Operator provides the tour, hire or activity itself under its own terms, waivers and safety briefings. GoCoast doesn't provide, supervise or control the tour, and isn't responsible for it. The Partner Operator is responsible for the vessel, the guides and the conditions.

Tour Mode

Tour Mode is a limited version of the app for recording your tour ride. While you're on a paid tour, some features, including community features and upgrade offers, aren't available.

Ride videos

  • A Partner Operator may sell you a GoCoast ride video. You pay the Partner Operator directly at the price it displays. Your receipt, and any refund, come from the Partner Operator.
  • Once staff confirm payment, your ride is unlocked and the video is created on your device from your ride data. How good the video looks depends on your GPS recording, your device and your connection.
  • If an unlocked video won't generate or has a major problem, contact the Partner Operator or support@gocoast.app. We'll work with the Partner Operator to fix it, re-supply it or arrange a refund, as the ACL requires.
  • Unlock codes are single-use and expire. Don't copy, share or resell them.

Partner staff

Partner staff accounts may be used only to confirm genuine sales for that Partner Operator. You may not use them to access customer information for any other purpose.

14. Safety Disclaimer and Your Responsibility
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY. Jet skiing, boating and other water activities carry obvious and inherent risks, including serious injury, drowning and death. You choose to take part, and you are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your passengers.
  • Conditions change fast. Weather, wind, tide, swell and marine information in GoCoast comes from third parties and forecasts. It may be delayed or wrong. Check official sources before and during every trip, such as the Bureau of Meteorology and Maritime Safety Queensland in Queensland, or the equivalent authority where you ride.
  • Not for navigation. GoCoast is not an approved chart or navigation aid. Carry the navigation and safety equipment the law requires.
  • Follow the law. You are responsible for complying with all boating laws wherever you ride, including licensing, registration, lifejackets, speed limits, distance-off rules, alcohol limits and exclusion zones.
  • Use your own judgement. Nothing in GoCoast, including routes, spots, leaderboards, other users' posts or Signal responses, is advice or a recommendation that a trip, route or condition is safe for you.
15. Intellectual Property

We, or our licensors, own the Service and its software, design, branding, maps and curated content. Subject to these Terms, we give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Service for your own non-commercial purposes. Partner Operators may use it for their business only as we have agreed with them. Don't copy, modify, distribute, sell or create derivative works from the Service, or use our branding, without our written permission, except as the law allows.

16. Your Content

You keep ownership of your User Content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, copy, adapt (for example resize, compress or trim a route for privacy), display and distribute your User Content. We use this licence only to operate, provide, secure and improve the Service, and to show your content to the audience you've chosen. We may sublicense it only to our service providers for those purposes.

We will ask for your permission before using your content in advertising or marketing outside the app. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for:

  • copies other users have already shared or saved
  • backups that are deleted on our normal schedule (see the Privacy Policy)
  • content we must keep by law

You promise that you have the rights to what you upload. That includes consent from people shown in your photos and videos. You also promise your content is lawful and follows these Terms.

17. Third-Party Services

GoCoast relies on third-party services, including:

  • Supabase (data and sign-in)
  • Cloudflare (hosting and delivery)
  • Mapbox (maps)
  • Apple and Google (sign-in, notifications and purchases)
  • RevenueCat (subscriptions)
  • Resend (email)
  • Open-Meteo and the Australian Hydrographic Office (weather, marine and tide data)

Their own terms apply to them. If one of these services is interrupted or changed, some features may stop working for a time. Links to other businesses and websites are for convenience only, and we don't endorse them.

18. Apple and Google

If you downloaded GoCoast from the Apple App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and GoCoast only, not Apple. GoCoast, not Apple, is solely responsible for the app and its content.
  • Your licence lets you use the app on Apple devices you own or control, as the App Store Terms of Service permit.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.
  • If the app fails to meet any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price of the app (if any). To the maximum extent the law permits, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
  • Apple is not responsible for dealing with any claims relating to the app, including product liability claims, claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements, consumer protection or privacy claims, or claims that the app infringes someone's intellectual property. GoCoast is responsible for those as these Terms set out.
  • You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo and are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

If you downloaded GoCoast from Google Play, Google Play's terms also apply to your download and purchases. Google is not responsible for the app.

19. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information, including location. It forms part of these Terms.

20. Australian Consumer Law

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the ACL. Nothing in these Terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy, or any guarantee, warranty or other term or condition, that the ACL or any other law implies or gives you and that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited. If the law lets us limit our liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee, our liability is limited, at our option, to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having them supplied again. Consumers in other countries keep the mandatory rights their local law gives them.

21. Disclaimers

Subject to Section 20, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available". We don't promise that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure. We don't promise that information in it, including conditions, locations, emergency numbers, zones, other users' content, Crew positions and Signal delivery, will be accurate, complete or up to date. We don't promise that it will meet your needs.

22. Limitation of Liability

Subject to Section 20, and to the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for loss or damage caused by your own breach of these Terms or failure to follow safety rules and the law. We are also not liable for anything done by other users, Signal responders, Partner Operators, or third-party services outside our reasonable control.
  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profits, revenue, business or opportunity.
  • Recreational water activities carry obvious risks. We are not liable for harm that results from an obvious risk of a dangerous recreational activity, to the extent the Civil Liability Act 2003 (Qld) or similar laws provide.
  • Otherwise, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us or our payment partners for the Service in the 12 months before the claim, or AUD $100.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud, where the law doesn't allow that liability to be limited.

23. Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for any reasonable loss, cost or liability, including reasonable legal costs, arising from a third-party claim caused by:

  • your breach of these Terms
  • your User Content
  • your breach of the law or someone else's rights
  • your wilful or negligent conduct

Your obligation is reduced to the extent that we caused or contributed to the loss.

24. Suspension and Termination

We may remove content, or suspend, restrict or close your account, if:

  • we reasonably believe you have seriously or repeatedly broken these Terms
  • you put other people's safety at risk
  • you use the Service fraudulently
  • the law requires it

Where it is reasonable and safe, we'll tell you why and give you a chance to respond. If you think we've made a mistake, email support@gocoast.app.

We may also discontinue the Service or a feature. If we do, we'll give reasonable notice where we can. If we permanently shut down a paid feature before your paid period ends, we'll help you get a pro-rata refund for the unused part, through Apple or Google.

You can stop using GoCoast at any time, and delete your account in Profile → Settings → Delete Account. Remember to cancel your subscription separately (Section 6).

Sections 14 to 16 and 20 to 26 continue to apply after these Terms end.

25. Disputes and Governing Law

If you have a dispute with us, please email support@gocoast.app first, and give us 30 days to try to resolve it. You can still seek urgent relief, or go to a consumer protection agency, at any time.

Using GoCoast worldwide. GoCoast is available in many countries. You must follow the laws that apply where you are and where you ride, including local boating, privacy, consumer and online-safety laws. Some features, content or emergency numbers may not be available or accurate everywhere. If a clause in these Terms can't lawfully apply where you live, it applies only as far as your local law allows, and the rest of the Terms still apply.

EU and UK consumers. You have the mandatory rights your local consumer law gives you, including any right to cancel a digital purchase within 14 days, which you exercise through the App Store or Google Play. Nothing in these Terms takes those rights away. The EU's online dispute resolution platform is no longer available, so contact us directly first.

These Terms are governed by the laws of Queensland, Australia. Each of us submits to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Queensland, and courts that can hear appeals from them. If you are a consumer outside Australia, you may also be able to bring proceedings in your own country and rely on its mandatory consumer laws.

26. General

Entire agreement: these Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service. Any feature-specific terms shown in the app, or any separate written agreement, also apply.

Severability: if a clause is invalid, it is read down or severed, and the rest of the Terms continue.

No waiver: if we don't enforce a right, we haven't given it up.

Assignment: you can't transfer your rights under these Terms. We may transfer ours as part of a sale or restructure of GoCoast, if your rights aren't reduced as a result.

Electronic notices: we may send you notices electronically, in the app or by email.

Events beyond our control: we aren't responsible for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, such as network, platform or provider outages, natural disasters, or government action.

27. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms when the Service or the law changes. If a change is significant and could affect you negatively, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice in the app or by email before it takes effect, unless it's needed urgently for safety, security or legal reasons. If you don't accept the change, you can stop using GoCoast, cancel your subscription and delete your account before it takes effect. If you keep using GoCoast after that date, you accept the updated Terms.
